The colon, an unknown organ

The large intestine, called the colon, has two distinct functions: waste disposal and the reabsorption of water and some minerals.

Day after day, stress and toxins associated with our modern diet, refined food and low in fiber, slowdown the progression of food to the intestine and promote rotting and fermentation.

Colonic irrigation is a great detox tool, a complementary tool to many alternative therapies.

The colon physiology

The large intestine, or colon, is the last part of the digestive tract. This large flexible hose, has a length of about 1.5 meters. The colon has several sections :

1 . cecum, the junction between the small intestine and colon and the appendix.

2 . the ascending colon, which runs along the right side of the abdomen and stops above the liver.

3 . the transverse colon, which passes above the navel and reaches the left side of the abdomen.

4 . descending colon, descending along the left side in a curve toward the center.

5. the sigmoid, shaped as an "S" of the descending colon .

6 . rectum, which constitutes the terminal portion of the colon and which opens to the outside through the anus.

The colon is not a pipe for discharging waste from the digestion. It also serves to absorb a lot of minerals and water, it also hosts an intestinal flora of first importance wich the two main roles are to destroy harmful bacteria and make certain vitamins. Any disruption of the intestinal flora is a health hazard. As the digestion process normally takes about twenty hours, so we should have a bowel movement at least once or twice a day.
